We are incredibly fortunate to be located in the heart of the South Downs National Park, surrounded by farms, fields, and fresh country air. This beautiful setting inspires our strong commitment to sustainability and to helping our children understand the importance of caring for the environment.

Looking to the future, we are ambitious in our plans for school food to be locally sourced, seasonal, and environmentally responsible. We want every child to learn where their food comes from, how it is grown, and how the choices we make can support a more sustainable planet.

Our children already enjoy visits to nearby farms, where they can see sustainable farming in action and build connections with our local community. These experiences bring learning to life and encourage respect for nature and the people who grow our food.

Through our new gardening club, pupils are now planting a variety of salads and vegetables which is an exciting step towards incorporating more school-grown produce into our meals.

We are also exploring the best ways to ensure that the hot lunches we provide are as sustainable as possible. Our current contract with Chartwells (through WSCC) comes to a natural end soon and we are looking at new opportunities to work directly with local farms and food producers. This will give us greater flexibility, reduce food miles, and strengthen our connection to the community, all while providing healthy, sustainable meals for our children.

A really exciting example of this is our work with a local mill who have agreed to work directly with us to supply us with flour for our daily sourdough. Not only with the bread be tasty and healthy, it will also be sustainably sourced.
