EYFS Curriculum

Curriculum Intent:

Our curriculum is ambitious and designed to meet the needs of all children. We use In-the-Moment Planning to respond to children’s interests and move learning forward during play. This ensures that learning is meaningful, engaging, and tailored to individual needs. We prioritise strong partnerships with parents, gathering their ideas and addressing questions about their child’s progress.

Phonics teaching follows the Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised scheme, providing a clear, systematic approach. Reading books are carefully matched to children’s phonic knowledge, enabling them to practise and apply skills confidently. Parents are supported through workshops, guidance, and resources shared via Class Dojo, ensuring consistency between home and school.

Our handwriting programme (Kinetic letters) develops both gross and fine motor skills, supporting children to achieve a secure pencil grip and letter formation. Early number skills are taught through the Mastering Number approach and embedded across the environment, ensuring children develop fluency and confidence in mathematics.

Curriculum Implementation:

The learning environment, indoors and outdoors, is carefully planned to promote independence, curiosity, and collaboration. Children have free access to resources and enhancements that allow them to practise newly taught skills, such as a kinetic letters area for handwriting. Mathematical concepts are reinforced through play and practical activities, making learning enjoyable and purposeful.

Parents are kept informed through Class Dojo, where they can view learning updates, comment on next steps, and access videos and guidance. Regular meetings provide further opportunities for discussion and collaboration.

Food at Graffham

At Graffham and Duncton schools we are passionate about food. We think it is really important the children develop a health relationship with good nutritious food and we also think that this can and should be integrated into the local community with sustainable locally sourced ingredients and freshly made nutritious meals. We want mealtimes at school to be full of joy, learning and community spirit.

Please join us on this journey to make our vision a reality…
