French

Curriculum Intent:

We strive to create a supportive and immersive learning environment that encourages students to embrace language learning as a lifelong journey.

Implementation

  • To develop childrens’ proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in French.
  • To expose students to the rich cultural heritage of French-speaking countries, fostering an understanding and appreciation for their customs, traditions, and contributions to the global community.
  • To instill a love for language learning and inspire students to continue exploring other languages and cultures beyond the classroom.

Curriculum Impact:

We recognise the importance of language learning in preparing our children to be global citizens and fostering cultural understanding. We aim to equip our students with effective communication skills in French and gain confidence in speaking in a different language at a simple level.

French Club at Graffham

Our French Teacher, Mme Byers, runs a very popular French Club at Graffham every week after school.

From Mme Byers:

This year  started with simple French basics such as bonjour, je m’appelle, comment ça va, numbers, colours, and learning to say our age. The children practised these through songs, games, movement activities and crafts.

Our main topic then became Christmas in France. We learned Christmas vocabulary, sang our French Christmas song, made Christmas decorations and cards, played festive games and ended with a mini-Christmas party where the children enjoyed tasting a traditional French bûche de Noël au chocolat.”
