Religious Education
Curriculum Intent:
Our Religious Education (RE) curriculum is designed to promote understanding, respect, and appreciation for all religious traditions, beliefs, and practices alongside our Christian ethos as a Church of England School. Through this intent document, we outline our vision and objectives for RE, emphasising the development of spiritual, moral, social, and cultural values in our primary school learners. We believe in fostering a climate of acceptance and mutual respect, where children can explore different faiths and worldviews in a safe and supportive environment.
Implementation
- To provide children with a broad understanding of our schools Christian values, major world religions and their cultural significance, cultivating religious understanding and empathy. To foster respect for diverse religious and non-religious beliefs, encouraging dialogue and debate, and promoting knowledge of different faiths.
- To encourage children to reflect on their own beliefs, values, and experiences, nurturing their spiritual growth and personal development.
- To explore moral and ethical issues, guiding children in the development of a strong moral compass and ethical decision-making skills.
- We create a safe space for children to engage in respectful dialogue about religious beliefs and practices, valuing diverse perspectives.
Curriculum Impact:
Through moral and ethical teachings from different religious perspectives, children will be able to reflect on ethical issues and make informed decisions based on empathy and compassion. Whilst engaging with religious texts, artefacts, and ethical dilemmas we encourage critical thinking skills and development of their own perspectives. They will learn to engage in respectful dialogue about religious beliefs and practices, promoting empathy and active listening skills.
