Geography
Curriculum Intent:
The intent of our geography curriculum in a junior school is to provide students with the knowledge, skills, and understanding to make sense of the world around them. We aim to inspire curiosity and fascination about the world and its people, cultures, and environments, and encourage students to think critically about issues such as sustainability and global justice.
Implementation
- To achieve our intent, our geography curriculum is designed to be broad, balanced, and engaging. We use a range of high-quality resources, including fieldwork and technology, to ensure that students have access to rich and varied learning experiences. We place great emphasis on building students’ spatial and environmental awareness, as well as their understanding of human and physical processes, and the impact of human activity on the environment.
- Our curriculum also emphasises the development of critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Students are encouraged to make connections across topics, while exploring real-life case studies that engage their interest and encourage them to think deeply about complex issues.
Curriculum Impact:
Our geography curriculum has a significant impact on our students. By the end of their time with us, students will have developed:
– A sound understanding of a range of geographical information, including place knowledge, maps, and digital technology.
– A deep and detailed knowledge and understanding of the Earth’s people, places, landscapes, natural resources, and environments.
– The ability to think critically, reflect on and evaluate their understanding of complex geographical issues and identify their own potential to effect change.
– The ability to communicate geographical information in a range of ways, including through analysis, written work, and visual and digital media.
Through our outstanding geography curriculum, our students will be equipped with the skills and knowledge they need to thrive in the world around them, and to play an active role in shaping its future
