Outdoor Learning
Core Principles:
Outdoor learning at Graffham and Duncton schools:
– is fully integrated across the curriculum, enriching and supporting learning in all subject areas.
– builds children’s independence, confidence, and ability to take responsibility for their own learning.
– develops strong teamwork, communication, and collaboration skills through shared experiences and challenges
– nurtures a love for the local environment, helping children feel connected to and care for their community and natural surroundings.
Wild Wednesdays at Graffham
Our children spend a considerable amount of time learning outside, either as part of their normal lessons or Wild Wednesday sessions. We personalise our creative curriculum to ensure that all children reach their potential based on their own curiosity and their interests.
The aim of Wild Wednesday Forest Schooling is to develop the skills of collaboration and co-operation, team building, and awareness of the natural environment. Each year through the seasons our children develop their knowledge and understanding of the natural world in a woodland setting.
The woodland will become their special place; a sense of stewardship is crucial to the ethos of our Forest School. Children make their own choices, whilst understanding the risks and challenges of the tasks that they complete, and improve their understanding and appreciation of their outside environment and the impact of their own actions on a place.
Forest School at Duncton
Children at Duncton Junior School participate in Forest School activities off-site during the year at Cooper’s Chase, an area of woodland near to the school.
